The studio behind the stone

Stone, chosen in person and cut with intent

Lunar Quarry began at the loading dock of a Koto warehouse, sorting offcuts by hand and learning which slabs weather and which simply age. Today we source, finish and advise — a single bridge between the quarry face and the room that will hold the stone for the next fifty years.

Where we came from

A warehouse habit that became a studio

What started as a small import operation in 2004 grew because clients kept asking the same question: not simply what stone costs, but which stone is right. We answered by visiting quarries ourselves, keeping records of how each seam cuts, and refusing to list a material we had not held. That discipline is still the whole business — we would rather turn down a lot than pass along a slab we would not install in our own homes.

How material reaches you

From the seam to the sawline

We work with verified quarries across Japan and abroad, selecting blocks by hand and tracking each lot from extraction through to the finished edge. Slabs are cut, calibrated and finished in our own Shinsuna workshop and in partner workshops we audit regularly, so a honed limestone from one order matches the next. Nothing is anonymous: every delivery carries its quarry of origin, its finish and the batch it belongs to.

What we actually do

Supply, fabrication and the advice between them

We sell slabs, tiles and cladding; we cut and finish to specification; and we consult on projects where the right stone is not obvious. For a homeowner that might mean a single vanity top. For an architect it means samples, structural notes and a measured schedule. We price material, fabrication and consultation separately and openly, so you are never paying for a service you did not ask for.

Who we work beside

Contractors, landscapers and the people who live with it

Most projects pass through several hands, so we make ourselves easy to coordinate with. Landscaping and renovation firms partner with us for consistent supply and on-site measurement; contractors rely on us for stock they can schedule against; and the homeowner at the end of the chain gets a finish that was decided deliberately, not left to whatever happened to be in the yard that week.

What we will not compromise

Fewer materials, better known

We keep our catalog deliberately narrow. A short list we understand completely serves a project better than a vast one we cannot vouch for. Each stone is tested for absorption, slip and wear against its intended use, and we will tell you plainly when a material you love is wrong for the floor it is going on. Saying so before the order, not after the install, is why people ring us again.

Come and stand on it

The yard is open to the people who will use it

Stone cannot be judged from a photograph. Our Koto showroom and yard are open by appointment so you can see a full slab in daylight, feel the difference between honed and leathered, and take home samples before committing. Bring your plans, bring your doubts — the consultation exists precisely so the decision is made before the saw starts.
